Major League Baseball History Re-Released in Historic New DVD Format
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 13, 2007
A classic collection of major league baseball history has been re-released on DVD, available at http://www.baseballnewsreels.com. Baseball in the News Classic Baseball Newsreels is a three volume collection of classic newsreels from the 1950s and 60s, featuring the original sound and narration just as it was seen in the cinema. The series spotlights such greats as “Joltin’ Joe” DiMaggio, “Stan the Man” Musial, Hammerin’ Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snyder and Willie Mays.
“Fifty years ago America had a passion for baseball,” says producer Jerry McNeil. “Radio and baseball were a great marriage, but lacked the visual impact. Only a small percentage of people could go to the games and television was just beginning. Where America really watched their baseball heroes in action was at the movies. Now, these memories are available on DVD.”
The collection chronicles America’s national pastime through more than one hundred world series, spring training, all-star games and off diamond highlights, including such classics as Bobby Thompson’s infamous home run that won the 1951 pennant for the NY Giants, Willie Mays’ four home runs in a single game in 1961, Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series, Roger Maris’ home runs #60 and #61 in Yankee Stadium in 1961, and Joe DiMaggio honeymooning with Marilyn Monroe in Japan in 1954. The collection features many of the greatest moments in baseball history.
When Baseball in the News was produced in 1984 a Sports Illustrated article stated, “For baseball buffs, Baseball in the News is a pitch straight down the middle.”
Pee Wee Reese, former Brooklyn Dodger great said, “Baseball in the News is something baseball fans will want to watch again and again! It is timeless. As the years roll by, it will become even more of a collector’s item. Seeing Ebbets field is like going home again!”
Producer Jerry McNeil called the discovery of the Universal Newsreel footage at the National Archives a dream come true. “Suddenly I was reliving all my childhood memories. I wanted to capture them for fans like me who remember those days and young fans, who have heard of the legends but rarely seen them play.”
Each volume runs about an hour in length. Interested buyers can purchase each volume separately at $ 19.95 apiece or can buy the entire set at a discounted rate of $ 49.95. The volumes encompass several years:
